The Paraje Natural Desfiladero de los Gaitanes is located in the centre of the province, between the towns of Alora, Antequera and Ardales. It is one of the most spectacular landscapes of the Malaga mountain range, with steep walls and considerable height, between which flows the Guadalhorce River after passing through the reservoirs of El Chorro, Guadalhorce, Guadalteba and Gaitanejo.
The Desfiladero de los Gaitanes is a canyon excavated by the River Guadalhorce in the municipality of Alora, with access from the north by the Guadalhorce reservoirs and from the south by El Chorro, which at some points is only 10 metres wide and 700 metres deep.
